Current Interior Design

Today interior design is for everybody. You can watch t.v. shows like trading spaces, you can order magazines like Interior Design, or you can go to the Parade of Homes near your area to see well decorated homes. All these things exist of how popular interior design is today.

Trading Spaces is a show on TLC. In this show neighbors switch homes to re-decorate each others houses. They each get 3 days to re-design a room, $2,000, and a professional interior designer. Another popular show is Design Star on HGTV. This show is about designers competing against each other decorating rooms, there are 3 judges who give them challenges each week by the end of the week they eliminate one until there is only one person left.

Interior Design magazine features amazing pictures and ideas of a home. It also has articles on trends and styles which people have problems with. The Home and Design magazine includes indoor designs, outdoor designs, builds and remodels, and product and luxury articles. This magazine is very helpful to people who don't know what to do. The Haute Living magazine focuses more on the "targeted towards those who desire—and have the means to experience—the finest things in life."(didn't say author??)

The Parade of Homes gives the people a chance to go around to see other well designed homes, that the designers have designed. You don't just go to look at the interior designing, you can also look at the landscaping trends. The parade of homes started about 60 years ago. The builders built and furnished the new home with all of the latest ideas and construction processes. So therefore you can really go anywhere to get ideas on decorating your own place, from television shows, magazines and even take tours at the Parade of Homes.

Background Information

Interior design is very important in society. Without interior designers, a lot of people would have very horribly designed homes. Homes don't design themselves. It takes a designer with a lot of acumen to make a good design. Having a well designed home makes people feel very comfortable with where they live.
No one really know when interior destign started, but if we go way back to the Egyptians they liked to have everything well decorated. Even the Romans from the earliest times liked to have their homes very well decorated as well. The Egytians had fancy ceilings and columns while the Romans had a focused view from each room and planned each room to meet a purpose. (venturist)
Interior designs like we have today mostly started with the Italian Renaissance. They were the first to use carpets, draperies, and large decorated mirrors to decorate their rooms. It was the most popular in the 17th and 18th centuries when it also influenced the French kings and queens. They were not abstemious in their designs. They liked it so much that they started putting their names on their furniture and decorations. For example, " The Louis styles are found in French furniture design during the whole 19th century" (http://www.egyptian-furniture.com/Egyptian_French-Furniture/Historic_Events_French_Furniture.htm)
Untill the early 1900's interior design was for the wealthy, but then it became available to everyone after the Industrial Revolution. This is the time when magazines started to print interior design ideas. Since ordinary people started decorating, that's when interior design grew.
Even though we don't know an exact date on when interior design started or any one person who actually started it, we do know it's been around since way back in the day. It shows that the people have cared about their homes for a long time. Now design is for everyone not just for the rich.

introduction

I know what colors make a room feel "warm" and "cold". I know how to place furniture in a room so it can look bigger than it really is. there are a lot of textures you can use also shapes and lines. I chose this topic because I took a class on Interior Design and I liked it and I would like to have it as a career later on.
The first question I got is when it all started like the history on it?
The second question is why people would need their own interior designer?
The third and final question is if I would like to be an interior designer after I do this paper.
